The residence halls takes security and safety seriously and has dedicated student and professional staff to help ensure your safety. The residence halls have a special program with the UC Police Department, the Residential Security Liaison Program, with an officer dedicated to each residence hall. In addition, student staff work to provide additional security in the residence halls.
Residence Hall Security Program
Each residence hall has a dedicated UC Berkeley police officer designated to provide security in the halls, give safety presentations, and answer residents’ questions. Please contact them with any safety and security questions or concerns you have. Email Sergeant Sato for the name and contact information of the officer assigned to your residence hall.
Sergeant Sato, a UCPD sergeant, oversees the Residence Hall Security Program, and provides instruction and help with professional and student concerns. Sergeant Sato can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 510.642.8561.
On-Site Security Staff
The residence halls also have on-site student security staff who have received safety and security training and enforce the security standards developed to help keep everyone safe.
Dedicated student security staff include security monitors, who monitor access to the halls; security coordinators, who supervise security monitors and provide educational services; and community service officers, who staff BearWALK and provide additional security support. Everyone is expected to follow the safety instructions of the security staff.
